SPICE™ Glossary / Order lifecycle visibility

Order lifecycle visibility

Order lifecycle visibility is the ability to see each order's full history and status, from purchase order through acknowledgment, changes, shipment, receipt and invoice, in one connected view.

Most integration tools track messages one at a time. They can show that a purchase order (EDI 850) was sent and that a functional acknowledgment (EDI 997) came back, but a 997 only confirms the document was received. It says nothing about whether the supplier can fill the order, when it will ship or whether the invoice will match.

Order lifecycle visibility connects the documents that belong to the same order, across every channel they arrive through:

With that view, customer service can answer status questions without calling the trading partner, purchasing can see which orders lack confirmation, and accounts payable can see why an invoice is on hold. It is also the foundation for exception management, because you can only spot what is missing once you know what should be there.

How SPICE™ handles it

SPICE Insight™ is the visibility layer of the SPICE™ platform. It turns the EDI, API, portal and document traffic already moving through your integrations into connected order lifecycles, with exceptions, aging, dashboards and KPIs across procure-to-pay, order-to-cash and logistics. It can run on its own alongside an existing EDI program.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How is order lifecycle visibility different from EDI tracking?

EDI tracking shows whether individual messages were sent, received and processed. Order lifecycle visibility connects those messages into the story of each order, so you can see what has happened, what should have happened and what is missing.

What data does order lifecycle visibility need?

The transactions you already exchange with trading partners: orders, acknowledgments, changes, shipments, receipts and invoices, whether they arrive by EDI, API, portal or document. The more complete those transactions are, the more reliable the view.
