Process orchestration

Supply chain orchestration in SPICE™ keeps every order connected to its confirmations, changes, shipments, receipts and invoices, applies your rules across all trading partners and shows who needs to act next.

A delivered message doesn’t mean the order is on track.

Traditional EDI and integration tools confirm that a document was sent and received. They don’t tell you whether the supplier confirmed the right quantity, whether the shipment notice matches the order, or whether the invoice will clear. Missing acknowledgments, conflicting changes and late shipments go unnoticed until a customer calls.

The SPICE™ Supply Chain Collaboration Platform keeps related documents, timing, business rules and exceptions connected, so your team can see what is missing and decide who should act. That is collaboration and a governed process, not just connectivity.

What supply chain orchestration means in SPICE™

Orchestration, in SPICE™, means turning the plan in your ERP into coordinated action across your trading partners. Every order becomes one connected record, from the first purchase order or customer order to the final invoice and payment status.

A governed process is your own rules enforced across the transaction. For example: a confirmation within 48 hours of the purchase order, a ship notice 48 hours before the truck leaves, a dock appointment, and an invoice only after that. SPICE™ applies those rules to every trading partner and shows the process running.

  • Preserve references across channels Order, shipment and invoice references stay linked whether a trading partner uses EDI, an API, a web portal or a PDF.
  • Validate against your rules Required fields, quantities, tolerances, item data and sequencing are checked before a transaction reaches your ERP.
  • Govern changes Order changes carry a reason and follow your approval workflow, with full history.
  • Watch the clock Configured service levels raise alerts when a confirmation, shipment notice or receipt is missing or late.
  • Route exceptions to people Each exception goes to the team that can resolve it, with the evidence attached.
  • Respect your systems Your ERP keeps ownership of accounting, inventory and enterprise execution.

Order orchestration across buying, selling and logistics

01

Procure-to-pay

Purchase orders, acknowledgments, changes, shipment notices, receipts and invoices move as one lifecycle. Invoice mismatches go to review instead of into your ERP. See procure-to-pay.

02

Order-to-cash

Customer orders arriving by EDI, API, SPICE Trade™ or document enter one order model, so confirmations, shipments and invoices follow the same path. See order-to-cash.

03

Logistics, running through both

Load tenders, carrier responses, shipment status, warehouse events and freight invoices stay tied to the order and shipment they belong to. See transportation and contract warehousing.

From signal to action

Orchestration only matters if someone acts on it. SPICE Insight™ shows each order’s lifecycle, flags missing or aging events and gives operations, customer service, finance and IT the same view. Inside SPICE Insight™, SpicY™ lets authorized users ask in plain language which orders need attention today and get the supporting evidence. Scale without rebuilding

Multi-site, multi-brand, multi-channel and multi-geography operations add complexity. With SPICE™, you add a customer, a supplier group, a site or a business unit by configuring the platform, not by building a new integration project. The rules you set once apply to every trading partner.

Every exception caught upstream is one your customer never sees. Orchestration is how clean data becomes the perfect order: complete, accurate, on time and correctly invoiced. It also gives you more control, because your team decides what happens next instead of reacting after an escalation.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is supply chain orchestration?

Supply chain orchestration is coordinating the steps of a supply chain process across systems and companies so each one happens correctly and on time. In SPICE™, it means connecting each order to its confirmations, changes, shipments, receipts and invoices, checking them against your rules and alerting the right people when a step is missing, late or wrong.

How is orchestration different from EDI?

EDI moves standard documents between systems and confirms they were delivered. Orchestration looks at what those documents mean together: whether the confirmation matches the order, whether the shipment arrived, whether the invoice should be paid. SPICE™ does both, so your team sees the business state of each order, not only its transmission status.

Does SPICE™ replace our ERP or WMS?

No. SPICE™ coordinates the work between your enterprise systems and your trading partners. Your ERP keeps ownership of accounting, inventory and enterprise execution, and your WMS and TMS keep running warehouse and transportation work. SPICE™ delivers validated transactions to them and keeps the related documents connected across every trading partner channel.

What happens when something goes wrong?

SPICE™ flags the exception, such as a missing confirmation, a quantity mismatch or a late shipment notice, and routes it to the team responsible with the related documents attached. Configured service levels show which issues are aging. Your team resolves the problem before it reaches your customer, instead of discovering it after an escalation.
