Platform overview / Every trading partner

Every trading partner

The SPICE™ Supply Chain Collaboration Platform brings every trading partner, whether it uses EDI, APIs, a web portal or documents, into one governed process between your ERP and your supply chain.

Participation shouldn’t depend on IT capability.

Your largest suppliers and customers may exchange EDI with you today. Many others still send purchase order confirmations by email, invoices as PDFs and product data in spreadsheets. Some are small. Many are large companies that simply use email or portals for part of their work. Either way, your team rekeys, chases and corrects.

The SPICE™ Supply Chain Collaboration Platform connects suppliers, customers, carriers and 3PLs through the channel each one can support, while keeping one governed process on your side. Your business rules, validations and approvals apply the same way to every trading partner.

Supplier enablement without all-or-nothing

Participation is flexible. Each trading partner can join SPICE™ in the way that fits its capability, and use a different channel for different transactions.

  • Non-EDI trading partners work in a guided web or mobile workspace, upload spreadsheets, or keep sending documents that SPICE™ turns into validated transactions.
  • Hybrid trading partners use EDI for most transactions and a SPICE™ workspace for the hard ones, such as building a complex advance ship notice or printing labels.
  • Fully integrated trading partners exchange EDI or API transactions from their own systems, and still benefit from shared visibility, exceptions and reporting.

The right channel for each trading partner

  • Suppliers SPICE Web OMS™ lets suppliers confirm orders at line level, respond to changes, build shipment notices with packing and label detail, and invoice, all inside your procure-to-pay rules.
  • Customers SPICE Trade™ gives non-EDI customers account-specific catalogs, contracted pricing and validated ordering, with orders flowing into your existing order-to-cash process.
  • Documents SPICE Digital Document Service™ turns PDFs, spreadsheets and emailed documents into validated transactions matched to the right order or invoice.
  • Product data SPICE Catalog™ collects supplier product data through EDI, APIs, data pools, files or web forms and checks it against your item requirements.
  • Carriers and 3PLs Load tenders, shipment status and warehouse events stay linked to the order and the shipment. See transportation and contract warehousing.
  • EDI and API trading partners SPICE™ exchanges, translates and validates structured transactions and delivers ERP-ready data.

EDI onboarding and certification

Bringing a trading partner live takes more than a connection. Requirements must be explained, data tested and issues corrected before production. SPICE iKompli™ lets trading partners test against your EDI maps, specifications and business rules on their own, with instant results, while your team sees every trading partner’s progress and decides when each one goes live.

For programs with hundreds of trading partners, SPICE Connect™ adds the people: outreach, onboarding, testing and rollout managed on your behalf. See managed services.

Why it matters to your customers

When every supplier confirms on time, ships with correct paperwork and invoices accurately, your customers receive complete, on-time orders. Clean data from every trading partner is what makes a perfect order possible. It is also how your team gets out of the inbox and back to managing exceptions that matter.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is supplier enablement?

Supplier enablement is the work of getting suppliers to transact digitally with you: confirming orders, sending shipment notices and invoicing in a format your systems can use. With SPICE™, suppliers can do this by EDI, API, a guided web workspace, spreadsheet upload or documents, and every channel follows the same rules, so you get clean data whatever the supplier's technology.

Do our trading partners have to adopt EDI?

No. SPICE™ meets each trading partner where it is. Non-EDI trading partners can use a web or mobile workspace or keep sending PDFs, spreadsheets and emails that SPICE™ turns into validated transactions. Hybrid trading partners use EDI for most documents and the workspace for the rest. You decide the requirements; trading partners choose a channel that meets them.

Is supplier enablement only about small suppliers?

No. Not using EDI doesn't mean small. Large suppliers also rely on email, spreadsheets or portals for some processes, such as order changes, complex shipment notices or claims. SPICE™ covers those gaps for trading partners of any size, so every transaction enters the same governed process and is checked against your rules.

How do trading partners get tested and certified?

With SPICE iKompli™, trading partners test their EDI documents against your maps, specifications and business rules on their own and get instant results. Your team sets the certification criteria, sees every trading partner's progress and decides on go-live. SPICE Connect™ can also manage outreach and onboarding for you across large rollouts.
