Cloud deployment options for EDI and supply chain collaboration software differ in where the software runs and who manages it:
- SaaS: the provider runs one platform for many customers in its own cloud, with logical separation. You don’t manage infrastructure, and updates are handled for you.
- BYOC (bring your own cloud): a dedicated, single-tenant instance runs inside a cloud account or subscription you own, so application compute and data stay within your boundary. Government cloud regions such as Azure Government are an option for organizations with public-sector requirements.
SaaS vs BYOC is usually decided by policy, not features. SaaS suits most companies that want a managed, cloud-first environment. BYOC is chosen when regulation, security policy or data-sovereignty rules require applications and data to stay inside the organization’s own cloud, as is common in defense and other regulated industries, or when a company wants the platform in the cloud it already runs.
Whichever model you choose, agree upfront who owns access, monitoring, updates and support, and check that the products, integrations and trading partner connections you need are available in that model.
